Although Anawangin is geographically on the mainland, getting there by land requires hiking and trekking. Renting a boat will get you to the cove the quickest. If you have the extra time, you can visit the other surrounding tourist attractions including Capones Island, Talisayen Cove, and Nagsasa Cove.

Fun fact: the sands on this beach are made of volcanic ash from the famous Mount Pinatubo.

Found in San Pablo City in Laguna, the Seven Lakes are Bunot, Calibato, Mohicap, Palakpakin, Pandin, Sampaloc, and Yambo. These enchanting bodies of water are in the San Pablo Volcanic Field, between the majestic Mount Makiling and Mount Banahaw.

Hilltop View Deck, Bulacan

Bulacan is a popular tourist destination because of its historical attractions, old churches, and crispy chicharon. However, many visitors are still unaware that this province near Manila is also home to some breathtaking natural beauties.

There's no need to drive six hours to Baguio when you can take the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) from Manila to Barangay San Lorenzo, Norzagaray in less time to get to the "Baguio of Bulacan." Also known as Hilltop, it is one of Norzagaray's lesser-known summer getaways.

Enjoy the cold weather and fresh air while admiring the Sierra Madre mountain range, Angat Dam, and Ipo Dam. Drive a little further to the Bitbit Bridge, from which you can follow a short trail to the Bitbit River. You can also explore the Angat Rainforest and Eco Park, which is right across the Bitbit Bridge.

Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur

If you're willing to go further away from Manila, buckle up and prepare to discover these two charming locales in the north. Both Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur have reopened their borders to tourists while maintaining rigorous safety and health measures.

In the northernmost portion of Ilocos Norte, you’ll discover the well-known white-sand beach of Pagudpud and the Dos Hermanos islets, a thriving surf destination. The Bangui Windmills and the Paoay Sand Dunes, as well as the majestic Kapurpurawan Rock Formation in Burgos, are considered must-sees. For those who are feeling more adventurous, you can take a boat out to Badoc Island for a day tour and some peace and quiet.

Ilocos Sur, in the south, is well known for the row of well-preserved Spanish-era homes that line Calle Crisologo, a cobblestone street. Churches and museums are also worthwhile stops here. Park your automobile and take a horse-drawn carriage about town like how the Ilocanos did in the past to complete the experience.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, Bataan

Stepping into this sprawling estate will make you feel like you've been transported back in time. The Spanish name Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar means "Acuzar's Philippine Houses." It’s home to Jose Acuzar's collection of elegantly and purposefully re-established Spanish-Filipino houses, which display the best of Filipino hospitality and artisanship.

Las Casas is a hotel complex that includes heritage properties. All of the ancestral homes here are renovated Spanish-Filipino homes that display architectural brilliance from all over the country. Historic structures such as the Hotel de Oriente and Casa Bizantina have been relocated or recreated here. However, Las Casas is more than just a tourist attraction. You can also watch cultural shows, play heritage games, dine, shop, swim, wakeboard, and ride a banana boat here.

Top get here, take the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) from Metro Manila and exit at San Fernando, Pampanga. Then continue driving until you reach Bagac, Bataan.

Masungi Georeserve, Rizal

Tucked within the Rizal rainforests is a conservation area known as the Masungi Georeserve. The term "masungki," which means "spiked" (full of spikes), is where the place’s name came from. This is a fitting description of the vast limestone landscape that the Masungi is known for. Visitors will be able to connect with nature in this sanctuary and reenergize themselves while doing so.

Explore the area to see a wide array of plant and animal species, and savor a few light snacks as well. Get a glimpse of Masungi’s rich heritage and history and its vibrant community. It encourages environmental awareness for individuals to act responsibly. The more we learn about nature, the better we will be able to protect it. Masungi has been defending its area against mining, illicit logging, land grabbing, and quarrying since 1996.

San Juan, La Union

When it comes to its status as a surf town, San Juan, La Union is considered Baler's main competition. However, if you've visited either of these locations, you can easily tell that each of them has a unique appeal. For San Juan, it's the city's carefree yet party-loving attitude.

Looking for a memorable barkada getaway close to Manila? You can surf as much as you like and sip beer by the beach in San Juan. Come late in the afternoon, the sunset colors the sky orange and transforms the West Philippine Sea into an out-of-this-world view. The nightlife in San Juan is also vibrant with various bars, restaurants, and pubs.

Minalungao National Park, Nueva Ecija

Nueva Ecija is much more than rice fields! If you're a nature enthusiast looking for underappreciated tourist destinations, head to this province and check out the Minalungao National Park. This paradise boasts turquoise-colored water surrounded by limestone walls.

You can ride a raft along the river and swim in your preferred location. You can also go on a picnic or try your hand at cliff diving. If you want a better perspective of the river and the rock formations, climb up to the hanging bridge.

Freedom Island Trail, Parañaque

This one is actually inside Metro Manila, not just close by. Off the coast of Parañaque and Las Piñas are the Freedom Islands, which include both Freedom Island and Long Island.

The Freedom Islands, also known as the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area, have a significant ecological role in the region. They are Metro Manila's last intact mangrove forest and salt marsh boundary. More than 80 species of native and migratory birds, as well as other marine life forms, find refuge on these two islands.

The Freedom Islands, unfortunately, are under threat. The waste that the city dumps has reached the islands. Environmental organizations frequently arrange clean-up efforts in which you can participate. You cannot swim here, but you can still go birdwatching if it’s your thing.

Taal Heritage Town, Batangas

Vigan is probably the first place that comes to mind when it comes to antique homes and Spanish design. But you don't have to drive for 10-12 hours to take in such stunning sights. The Taal Heritage Town is a similar road trip destination that is closer to Manila.

The ancestral homes in this charming town are in good condition. Imagine the town's splendor during the Spanish era as you gaze at them. At Casa Villavicencio or Casa V, you can spend the day acting like a Don or Doña by paying a fee to explore the residence. Visit as well the Villavicencio Wedding Gift House, which is just nearby. Wander about the casa to see the clever fusion of European aesthetics and Pinoy sensibilities.

Road Trip Reminders for Your Health and Safety

While travel restrictions aren't just as strict as they once were, you should still observe caution. Here are a few (but highly crucial) pointers to consider:

1. Do an overall vehicle inspection.

If you have gotten a car for rent in Manila from a reliable peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace, you won't have to worry about having it breaking down during the trip as you can be sure the vehicle is well-maintained. But of course, examining the car before driving is still a must for any reason whatsoever.

2. Stay updated about travel regulations and health protocols.

Travel regulations, restrictions, and health protocols are subject to change at any time, so you should always be informed. The mandatory wearing of face masks may have been lifted, but it won't hurt to bring or wear one in crowded confined places. Make sure to carry along an alcohol or disinfectant too. Last but not the least, also bring your immunization card or certificate (original or digital copy).

3. Make sure to have the complete car essentials.

With an emergency kit in your vehicle, minor vehicle hassles shouldn’t be a problem. Remember that if you take the time and care to acquire these car emergency supplies, they will eventually serve as life-savers (literally and figuratively), especially when it comes to situations where you or someone you come across needs roadside assistance while you're out and about.
